FOD, Drone, Birdstrike, Habitat, Safety
Foreign Object Debris (FOD), Wildlife and Drones are all items that will appear on every Aerodrome Risk register, whether it is Civilian or Military.
Drones, FOD & Wildlife are all feature highly on the registers for every Aerodrome (civil or military) or Aircraft operator and for the Regulators who support the proactive management of them.
As quick as these risks and hazards emerge or evolve, as an industry, we need to adapt & advance our responses whilst never being complacent that the approach we have today or was doing yesterday will ever continue to be enough!
FAHM will explore the case studies looking at the potential impact of these risks, threats and hazards, how we learn from the consequences and how we apply best practice in terms of procedures, training or technology to continually evaluate and contain them.
Society and social attitude changes rapidly, so we must look to embrace this and in some case look at how we can include this into everyday operations. Significantly we look at the impact drones are having in support of our asset inspection and monitoring functions. We should also be braced for a society where our logistics requirements will be centred around the use of drones rapidly creating new airways in the future.
Maintaining our environments and habitat continues to be a balancing act in the prevention of FOD and Wildlife management – getting the right balance to support the growth of a habitat is key, whilst ensuring it doesn’t become the haven for wildlife risks. Investment in habitat is as critical as investment in FOD prevention. FAHM continues to explore the latest approaches and procedures to FOD prevention on the ramp and airfield and the latest technologies that can alert us to the presence of the risks.
